A brief history of the club
2025 saw Stoke on Trent Model Club (IPMS) celebrate our tenth year as a club.
Initially formed out of the old Meir Model Club by two former members and two new members, the club has grown in numbers and now attends many shows around the country, including support of the now yearly modelling event at the Potteries Museum in Hanley.
By 2026, the club has some twenty members who put on static displays at many shows around the UK throughout the year, including the IPMS Scale Model World International show in Telford and even hosts its own show every August which this year will be held at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke on Trent.
This year’s show will feature 55 UK model clubs and SIGs and some twenty-plus associated traders and has had increased footfall from the public each successive year. The models on display cover all subjects from military to civilian, aircraft to ships and SCI-FI and fantasy and we also hold an open competition with certificates and trophies for winners and runners-up.
Several of our members have had their work featured in modelling magazines and some undertake commission builds for non-modellers. We also run the Rubicon Models Special Interest Group, in conjunction with the club display, at shows. This is a small, affiliated group who build dioramas and models specifically supplied by Rubicon Models UK which are used as publicity for the company on social media.
We have three Facebook pages, SOT Model Club IPMS Group, SOT Model Club IPMS and Rubicon Models SIG and a new active website stokemodelclub.co.uk, with regular updates on club events, shows attended and other modelling related subjects.

Our club meets every Wednesday evening at The Salvation Army Hall in Longton from around 18.30 until 20.30 in a modern well-lit venue. New members are always welcome, so if you would like to drop in and see what we are about, please feel free to come and have a friendly chat with like-minded people. The kettle will be on and we usually have biscuits! There is ample free, off-road parking.
